The Turn List
Chore lists that are easier to share
A balanced chore list names the finish line. Before adding a task, agree on what “done” means and roughly how long it takes. Keep private rooms and personal belongings out of the shared list unless everyone agrees.
The after-dinner reset
- Load or wash the dishes from dinner
- Wipe the table and kitchen counters
- Sweep the kitchen floor
- Put away shared cooking ingredients
Check that the tasks are similar in your kitchen. A mountain of dishes may need two separate turns or help from everyone.
The weekly shared-space pass
- Vacuum the main shared room
- Take out recycling and replace the liner
- Dust the shared shelves
- Wipe the entryway surfaces
Pick one task in the menu and spin for its person. Repeat for the next task. The wheel keeps the counts balanced across all recorded assignments, rather than balancing each chore separately.
The five-minute maintenance round
- Return shared items to their places
- Water the agreed household plants
- Wipe the bathroom sink
- Collect mugs from common areas
Availability should reflect who can safely and reasonably do the work. Do not include tasks involving hazardous products or tools unless the people taking part can handle them appropriately.
Before the first spin
Agree on the list, check availability, and confirm that counting turns is fair enough for this round. A random wheel cannot settle an unresolved disagreement about responsibilities.
Create your turn list. Read the rotation rules when you add or rename someone.
